2018: Posts 1-24

Dev Post 1: Backgrounds vs Classes, Calculating Spells, Conchita, conchito, humans, and vampires

Your every day Dwarven couple

May 18th, 2018
This week we had heated discussions on whether we wanted our game system to be revolving around classes or backgrounds. Even though this was mainly a discussion about cosmetics, it was important to us on how we communicate the game to the player. Lastly we also worked on the Spell Calculator, had a sneak peak at Conchita and Conchito the Dwarves and are working on Steampunk humans and playable vampires!

Dev Post 2: A week of Steampunk: of the geography of Victoria and her clocks, vampires and werewolves

Concept sketch, vampire clockmaker working on clock

May 25th, 2018
We had a fun week: we settled on the 4 city states of Victoria with their own unique cultures, religions and governments and worked on playable Vampires and Werewolves. We can tell you, our vampires are much like classic Victorian vampires, but, with an Æther Void twist. Werewolves are coming, and we now know how ‘clocks’ are animated 🙂

Dev Post 3: Our first official internal playtest!

Sketches first Aether Void Playtest

June 1st, 2018
Our (anti)heroes met each other in The Feisty Barmaid in Old Harbour Town where they helped Feisty out with clearing her cellar of abomination rats. After all, what is a first playtest of a new RPG without a rat infested cellar? ^_^’ The fight was brutal, with many rat-bits flying everywhere. Yes, Æther Void is brutal, and combat is deadly (and let’s not mention magic!)

Dev Post 4: How vampires and werewolves procreate

Steampunk lady and painting website

June 8th, 2018
Yes, we know now! Our vamps and wolves can create others, and it is going to be totally messy! Also, we completely reworked magic to work the same in the Steampunk and Fantasy world even though they both think it works totally different. Looking forward to the moment when these worlds collide.

Dev Post 5: Playtest #2 – Gunnar’s Guard and Lamia

Playsession 2 Aether Void Earl and Mark

June 15th, 2018
This playtest, Gunnar was impressed by our party of heroes(?) and hired him to help him with his kidnapped daughter. It turns out, Lamia were involved, and as the party convinced Gunnar to lend him half of his guards to go out and investigate, Gunnar was robbed by the same Lamia! Poor Gunnar! What will the players do next?

P.S. How did Earl end up with those fancy clothes?!

Dev Post 6: Do Clocks have souls, and what happens to them when they die?

June 22nd, 2018
Yes. Clocks have souls, demon souls, and if a demon soul can survive the death of a demon and be bound to a clock, it would only be natural if clock-souls can be re-bound in a similar way. Oh the woes of such an unnatural approach to immortality.

Dev Post 7: Playtest #3 – Airborne mages

July 10th, 2018
Our heroes encountered an evil mage at the top of a 15 meters tall tower, and how does one kill a mage? Well apparently, you just use a massive windblast to blow out the wall of the tower, with the mage alongside it. Queue gravity!

Dev Post 8: Gameplay balancing and bloody mages!

Dev post 8 balancing magic.

July 20th, 2018
After our internal playtest it was time to hit the mages with the nerf-bat and we spent the whole working session doing so. But it is done. Magic should now be balanced…. It should… really…

Dev Post 9: Abominations, vs demon mutations vs alien fauna, book layouts, (sub)classes and skills

August 3rd, 2018
Today we defined the core book layout and the 15 preset playable classes for Far Haven (fantasy) and discussed how the critters should visually differ for the Abominations (Far Haven), Demon mutations (Victoria), and alien fauna (Sleeping Dragon).

Dev Post 10: Sleeping Dragon – Factions, A.I. Cultures, Economy

August 10th, 2018
Creating a futuristic Sci Fi planet proofs to be a bigger challenge for us than it was to create our fantasy and steampunk world, but we are getting there. Today we defined the governing system, major A.I and major factions.

Dev Post 11: Sleeping Dragon – Flying cars, cybernetics, robots

Flying car concepts for Sleeping Dragon, the Æther Void sci world.

August 31st, 2018
This week we are working on flying cars and what type of cybernetics are possible. What kind of cybernetics would you like to have?

Dev Post 12: Do Dwarves have perceived genders and how are robots not a threat to humans?

Factory droid

September 7th, 2018
So yeah, Dwarves don’t care for gender, they all look alike and they all like it hairy \0/ On the SciFi end we have decided to base robots on Isaac Asimov’s famous Three Laws of Robotics to keep humans safe.

Dev Post 13: Writing the Far Haven Core Book

September 18th, 2018
The last couple of weeks we’ve started writing the Far Haven Fantasy Core Book, currently at the stage of explaining character creation.

Dev Post 14: Worldbuilding, reeling in investors, and planning a roadtrip

October 1st, 2018
We’re taking over the world, one investor at a time. Today we talked to our first potential investor looking to bring Aether Void to life, which is a large step into setting up our kickstarter in a couple of months! We’re also planning to visit Spiel in Essen, Germany. Will we be seeing you there? Are there other conventions we should be visiting as well? Let us know!

Dev Post 15: Dragons? Dragons.

October 9th, 2018
No tabletoprpg should be without dragons ! We’ve been looking into more conventions and events where we could potentially show off our game, and are working to make our social media posts a bit more engaging and coherent. More soon!

Dev Post 16: Charactersheets and Sound Design

October 19th, 2018
We’ve been tuning the gears of our Clock…uh I mean, game. We’ve been working on an audio-moodboard for our sound designer in order to give some feel to the #fantasy world of Far Haven. We have also been working on balancing #gameplay and wrapping up our charactersheet.

Dev Post 17: Magic and investment proposition

November 2nd, 2018
Today we polished the rules and mechanics of our magic system. We also revamped existing characters according to the updated game system and they are now ready for new playtesting sessions. On the business side of things, we wrote Aether Void’s first official investment proposition, meaning we’re now one step closer to reeling in our first investor!

Dev Post 18: Spellcasting, Subclasses and Skills

November 10th, 2018
Playtesting had to wait this week as we held lengthy discussions on our magic system and its integration with subclasses and skills. Now our spell calculator works wonders and it’s easy to use as well as having the magic system be easy to grasp! This means next week will be the week for playtesting!

Dev Post 19: Soldiers & Dragons

There be Dragons

November 16th, 2018
A day of working on a bestiary and combat. Some unfortunate soldiers ran into a dragon, that dragon later ran into some veterans and met his doom. (Also yes, the soldiers all died… painfully).

Dev Post 20: Robots and Beasts

December 2nd, 2018
The last weeks we’ve playtested, worked on Sleeping Dragon’s Robots (they are coming!), started creating and populating the Bestiary for Far Haven, and we are sooooo close to signing an investor.

Dev Post 21: To do list and Chimaeras

December 8th, 2018
We have been working on our ever expanding bestiary and more importantly, taking a look at what still needs to be done to finish our core books! You can be sure that they’ll be filled to the brim with rules, lore, and everything else you need to play the game!

Dev Post 22: Classes, currency, champagne

December 14th, 2018
We’re crystal clear on our currency system after a healthy discussion and we’re making fast progress on classes and subclasses. Also… we officially landed our first investor! Contract’s signed and ready, the money’s in the bag; time to mysteriously disappear.

For real though, we’re both thrilled and a bit nervous with how serious this is getting, but our resolve has never been greater!

Dev Post 23: Christmas, Conscience and Saving Throws

Just another Christmas Robot

December 21st, 2018
‘Tis the season to be working, which means we’ve been brainstorming about a conscience system and discussing saving throws. They’re all working titles of course, but we’re making steady progress and we’ve also got our artist a new drawing tablet to boost her incredible art EVEN MORE!

Dev Post 24: Tablets and Conventions

December 28th, 2018
So, the tablet is in! Our artist is happy and frantically drawing away while we booked the tickets to Garycon and GamesExpoUK Come say hi, chat about nerdy stuff and maybe playtest the game 😉
